In its raw form, amber is a time-hardened resin obtained from the giant prehistoric conifer Pinus Succinifera. However, somewhat confusingly, this isn’t the actual ingredient used in amber perfumes. Instead, amber in perfumery refers to a fantasy note (or fragrance family) made up of a basic accord of labdanum, vanilla, and benzoin. This combination of notes smells sweet and cozy and may even have an animalic quality about them, depending on the mix.
